My little Strippy Triangles Dolly Quilt sat on the back of my sewing chair for weeks, just waiting to be quilted. The other day I was looking for some hand sewing to do and remembered the little quilt.
In no time at all, I had it quilted. Like my last dolly quilt, I quilted it while watching West Wing. (I'm up to Series 6 now - Jimmy Smits is running for president - he's got my vote!)
For the quilting, I used Perle 8 thread again and just went diagonally through all the blocks.
I wasn't sure what fabric to use for the border, but took the lead from Kathleen Tracy and went for a blue fabric. I narrowed my pick down to 2 fabrics but in the end went for the darker one.
I think it framed the quilt beautifully.
I'm pleased with the finished result and even like the choice of colours.
One of the benefits of making these quilts is the practice it gives me in piecing different blocks. I've always been a bit haphazard when it comes to piecing, but have noticed that my accuracy has definitely improved since I started making dolly quilts.
One thing that always amazes me though is the fact that they use up so 'little' fabric. You would think they would be stash busters but I still seem to have lots of fabric left. Although they do give me a chance to use up scraps of favourite fabrics and what a nice way to showcase them.
Until next time
