I've been watching with interest the Sew Along from the book One Metre Wonders on Pink Chalk Studio's blog. They seemed to be making some really nice things so the other week I purchased a copy of the book for myself.
The book is full of all sorts of interesting projects from accessories to clothing, all requiring just one metre of fabric.
I haven't done any 'real' sewing for years but thought it was time to give it a go. So yesterday I went off to Spotlight and bought one metre of a pink cotton print with the aim of making a pair of sleep shorts.
There is no 'pattern' in the book for sleep shorts but instead there are directions on how to draw your own pattern to fit your measurements which means they are custom-fit!
You just take the measurements they tell you to, slot them into a couple of formulae and then draw up the pattern. In about 1 1/2 hours maximum I had a pair of perfectly fitting sleep shorts to wear to bed. I was very chuffed with myself. In fact, I'm so pleased with them that I plan to make a couple more pairs.
The only drama I had with sewing them was remembering that the seeam allowance was 5/8" rather than 1/4". Other than that, they went together beautifully.
I'm keenly looking at the book now to see what else I will make. There's a lovely summer nightie in there so maybe that will be it.
Until next time
