My new design Summer Totes is progressing well. I have now finished the stitchery version.
The finished size is 16" x 16" excluding the handles.
I wanted it to be a generous size so it would hold lots of 'things' that are essential on a summer outing like sun cream, sunglasses, a good book, and a water bottle.
Inside there are two large pockets to hold all those 'things' safe. I also added some ric-rac braid and a covered button.
I made this one scrappy so I could showcase those lovely fabrics. I'm so pleased I bought them. I handquilted with Perle 8 thread just to give it a bit more texture.
For the stitchery, I wanted to show all those things that make summer fun. I included a desert island because that's always been a dream of mine - to own a small island. It's not quite as ridiculous as it sounds. Sometimes islands do go up for sale here in paradise but are either too expensive or totally undeveloped which means that you would have to live very 'basically' - not my preferred option.
The second tote bag will be the same size as this one except I'm not making it as scrappy but chose a couple of fabrics to use.
Instead of a stitchery design, this one will have an applique design. I'm adding some ric-rac braid and some buttons for embellishment.
I should have them both finished later in the week.
Until next time
Lyn
A desert island in the sun sounds very inviting at the moment. I like the applique version too

The bags are gorgeous and they certainly say summer to me.
I especially love the fabric used around the top and handles of the finished bag.
